We will be back on the courts in 2022-23!
In normal years:
HYSA Basketball provides children in pre Kindergarten thru High School the opportunity to play basketball while fostering skills development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
For athletes in grades 3 thru 12, HYSA participates in the Merrimack Basketball League (MBL). Teams at this level practice one or two times per week and games are generally played on Saturdays with an 7 to 12 game schedule. The MBL is hoping to start games or jamborees on 11/12 for 3/4 and 5/6 grades. The older grades will start later on.
Middle School Basketball
The Hopkinton Middle School will sponsor Middle School girls and boys teams. HYSA will have additional 7th/8th grade teams for those players not selected for or not interested in playing on the Middle School teams or players that want to play both. No late fees will apply
If we have Pre-K Ball again this year.
For kids that are not in Kindergarten yet. The kids would be at Harold Martin School on Saturday mornings from 8:15-9am and planning on having 7 events. Depending on numbers, we may combine with Kindergarten and go from 9-10am.
Biddy Ball
For children in Pre-K/Kindergarten thru 2nd grade, the “Biddy Ball” program provides 7 weeks of skills development on Saturday mornings in December, January and February. The Pre-K/Kindergarten will be 9-10am while the 1st grade will be 10-11am and 2nd grade will be 11am-12pm, all at the Harold Martin gym. We may restrict numbers due to space or add another time slot to make it work with larger numbers.
High School Rec League
MBL also offers a high school rec division for players in 9-12 grades
Timeline **TBD**
Registration: No “in-person” registration will be held but the offline form once completed can be mailed or delivered to the HYSA Registrar on the bottom of the form to complete the registration process. Players in grades 3 thru 6 who fail to register by the deadline are not guaranteed the opportunity to participate and must pay a late fee if they are accepted. Biddy Ball participants may register anytime and there are no late fees for Biddy Ball registrants. MS players can register after the MS tryouts are complete. HS players can register after we confirm there will be a HS division in the MBL.
Evaluations: Evaluations will be conducted at the Hopkinton Middle High School gym towards the end of October. For Grades 3 through 6, the evaluations are used to make the teams as even as possible. The evaluation schedule is:
Mon 10/24 6-7:30 3/4 Boys
Tue 10/25 6-7:30 3/4 Girls
Wed 10/26 6-8 5/6 Girls
Thur 10/27 6-8 5/6 Boys
Fri 10/28 6-8 TBD
Team Assignments: Teams will be finalized as soon as possible after the evaluations are complete at each level. Team and coach assignments will be emailed to parents.
Practice Schedules:
The 3rd/4th grade teams will practice 1-2 times per week at the Harold Martin School and at Maple Street School. The 5th/6th grade teams and the 7th/8th grade teams will practice 1-2 times per week with practices held at Harold Martin School, Maple Street School, and at the High School. Most weekday practices are in the evening while morning and afternoon practices are held on Saturdays and Sundays. Safety concerns significantly limit the effectiveness of basketball practices at the Maple Street gym. This combined with the sheer number of teams participating makes weekend practices a necessity. The practice schedules will be emailed to the coaches for distribution to their teams.
